Psychologist Says Gemini AI Can Support Mental Health

JAKARTA - Currently, people's mental health is a concern throughout the country, including Indonesia. The World Health Organization (WHO) also recognizes that the urgent need for mental health services is easily accessible globally.

Berdasarkan hal tersebut, Google sebagai perusahaan teknologi besar menyatakan dukungan terhadap kesehatan mental para penggunanya secara global, dengan meluncurkan layanan generif AI bernama Gemini.

Gemini can help learn more about the mental condition of its users, treatment options and support resources in Indonesia. Psychologist Offie Dwi Natalia said Gemini's advice on users regarding mental health is quite relevant.

"There are so many friends out there who may only look for suggestions from the general article, which we don't know where it comes from. This AI, especially Gemini, I see that the suggestions are enough to provide peace for those of us who are upset, mentally broken, don't know who to call, so the nine one is AI," said Offie Dwi Natalia, in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

However, Offie reminded that AI Gemini cannot be used to diagnose mental disorders suffered by its users. The AI only functions to provide advice to recommendations for activities that can be done to deal with stress.

"But it needs to be realized that AI is not used to diagnose. This only provides advice for us humans about what we should do at home," he said.

"Then what activities can be done when stressed and easy to do, without requiring tools that are difficult to find out there," he added.

To get a definite diagnosis regarding the mental disorders suffered, users must continue to consult with experts. Starting from psychologists to psychiatrists.

"This (AI Gemini) is not a professional substitute, not a substitute for psychologists, psychiatrists to diagnose the mental health of all friends," concluded Offie.
