JAKARTA - David Fincher is reportedly in discussions with Netflix to make the Squid Game series in the English version. The 62-year-old director is said to be still in the early stages of making a series set in the United States.

Citing Deadline, Fincher will work on this series as a priority so that it will most likely be produced starting next year.

Previously, Fincher and Netflix worked together on several projects such as the Mindhunter series and the film The Killer in 2023.

The Squid Game series, which debuted on Netflix in 2021, received positive criticism and took the Top 10 Global with 142 million viewers in its 28-day release.

Squid Game received nominations at a number of awards such as the Emmy Award and the main character, Lee Jung Jae became the first Korean actor to win Best Actr at Emmy.

The series will come with a second season in December with original and additional new players. Squid Game 2 is still being made by Hwang Dong Hyuk.

"It took 12 years to bring Squid Game's first season to life last year, but it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series. As a writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, thank you to fans around the world," wrote Hwang Dong Hyuk.

"Thank you for watching and loving our series," he said.

Last November, Netflix also created a Squid Game: The Challenge event which was followed by 456 contestants to win 4.5 million US dollars. The Challenge is also confirmed to continue into a second season.
