LSF Responds To The Issue Of Indonesian Films Assessed By The Exploitation Of Tragedy And Religion

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Film Censorship Institute (LSF) is trying to respond to the viral issues related to exploitation in films, including exploitation of tragedy, religion, and other practices.

Deputy Chairperson of the LSF for the period 2024-2028 Noorca Marendra Massardi said that his party could not prohibit the genre of the film taking the themes.

Because he considered that if the genre has a lot of enthusiasts then it is something that is natural and natural in the community.

"Well, if there are themes, any genre, it's the right of every creator, filmmaker, producer to produce them. Horror themes, religious themes, if there are many enthusiasts, I think it's something natural, natural, according to people's tastes as well," said Noorca Marendra in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 29.

Then Noorca emphasized that the LSF really respects freedom of creativity and does not set limits on filmmakers in their work.

Noorca explained that the position of the LSF only conveyed recommendations for scenes that were considered contrary to norms.

"This is in a democratic country, film censors have great respect for freedom of creativity, there are no restrictions," he said.

"We are never cutting again, we only submit recommendations if there are certain scenes that we value contrary to the norms," he added.

He explained that the position of the LSF in this case is to maintain that the genres raised by film producers are not excessive and offend certain parties.

"Well, we're just here to keep all the genres excessive, exploit, do things that offend certain groups, so we look after them there," he said.

"And I think to this day all filmmakers understand and they also make works even though the sadistic is also measurable, not explosive," he said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) inaugurated 17 members of the Film Censorship Institute (LSF) for the period 2024-2028 to strengthen the quality of Indonesia's film ecosystem on Wednesday, August 28 yesterday.
