Metallica Donates Hundreds of Millions After Cardiff Concert Tickets Sold Out

JAKARTA - Metallica has once again shown its social concern in the midst of their world tour. After holding a magnificent concert whose tickets were sold out in Cardiff, Wales, last weekend, James Hetfield et al immediately donated 20,000 pounds (about Rp407 million) to the Cardiff Foodbank charity.

Metallica's move is a breath of fresh air for Cardiff Foodbank, given that weeks before the concert took place, the institution had posted an emergency aid request on social media because of the empty condition of their logistics warehouse.

Cardiff Foodbank CEO, Rachel Biggs, admitted that she was very surprised and did not expect it when she was first contacted by Metallica management. He thought the electronic message he received was a cyber scam that had recently occurred.

"We received an email saying 'This is not a scam. Please contact our foundation'. They then said, 'We will donate 20,000 pounds to you'," said Rachel Biggs, quoted by the BBC, Tuesday, June 30.

Biggs added that the funds had a very massive impact on the sustainability of their services. According to him, the amount is one of the largest celebrity donations ever received.

"This is an incredible amount of money that will make a big difference and replenish our empty shelves," he said.

The visit to Cardiff is part of a long-running 'M72 World Tour' that has been underway since 2023 to promote Metallica's 11th studio album, "72 Seasons"

Metallica's action follows in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, who also donated to the same institution after holding a concert at The Eras Tour at the Principality Stadium in 2024.

For information, Cardiff Foodbank is the backbone for the poor by supporting more than 20,000 people every year. This institution operates eight distribution centers throughout the city and provides a mobile service to deliver food aid packages directly.
