JAKARTA - Had been boycotted for religious defamation, the film Thaghut received a subpoena from a group claiming to be defenders of a shaman. The film produced by Leo Pictures received subpoenas from a group that defended the shaman on Thursday, August 21.

The horror film, which was once boycotted on social media, is considered offensive to practitioners who use a cultural and klenic approach in treatment, because of the narrative of heretical shamans.

It is known that this film presents the theme of heretical teachings performed by a healing shaman named Abah Mulya (Whani Darmawan). Referring to his synopsis, we will accompany Ainun (Yasmin Napper) to face the terror of Abah Mulya's heretical teachings. There are also Bagas (Arbani Yasiz) and Rini (Ria Ricis) figures who will accompany Ainun revealing the mystery of Abah.

This depiction of a heretical shaman is the problem with the group. As stated in the summons, Dwi Lestari, a culturalist, pemelihara kejawen, and representatives of colleagues who work as 'Dukun Putih', regrets that Leo Pictures must give a negative stigma to alternative medicine practitioners who have cultivated in Indonesia.

Pengsomasi juga menuntut Leo Pictures untuk memberi penjelasan soal promo filmnya yang tampak terlalu menindek seluruh shaman. Padahal, praktik tersebut banyak seram apa yang disitakan oleh film tersebut.

"The act of generalizing it makes this profession seem as if everything is a wrong act and a heinous nature. This is certainly very physically and immaterially detrimental to parties referred to as 'white shamans' who do their work logically and do not carry out mystical activities or ceremonies", said Dwi Lestari in her subpoena.

With the summons, even the controversy this film has. You see, the horror film, which was previously titled 'Kiblat', was also boycotted on social media on its poster which was considered to be playing with the worship movement.

The controversy grew even bigger after the Indonesian Main Assembly also commented on the poster with a portrait of the figure who carried out the sectional movement upside down. Leo Pictures also held a long conversation with MUI, resulting in the film passing the sensor which is now titled Thaghut.
