Netflix Response After Being Sued 2.7 T Because Of Baby Reindeer Series

JAKARTA - The Netflix streaming platform was sued by a Scottish woman who demanded a loss of US$170 million or Rp2.7 trillion. The woman named totaling Harvey claims Martha's character in the Baby Reindeer series is a character inspired by her.

Baby Reindeer tells the story of Donny (Richard Gadd) who is followed by a woman (Jessica Gunning) who leads to sexual violence and mental health. Donny initially felt guilty for not giving free drinks when the woman visited the bar where he worked.

But starting from the drink, Donny began to be followed by the woman and made Donny start to experience mental health. This story is Gadd's personal experience who is also the creator and main character.

Quoting Variety, Harvey said that Martha's character, played by Jessica Gunning, was adapted from her. He sued Netflix for defamation, emotional pressure, and banning publicity.

The lawsuit was filed by Harvey on Thursday, June 6 to the California District Court, United States. They claim Netflix has lied to the series.

The lie that the Defendant told about Harvey to more than 50 million people around the world including Harvey was a stalking person who was sentenced to twice and sentenced to five years in prison, Harvey sexually abused Gadd. The defendant lied and never stopped, because the story is better than the truth, and a better story will make money, "as Harvey filed.

As a result of the Defendant's lies, irregularities and reckless actions, Harvey's life has been destroyed. Simply put, Netflix and Gadd destroyed his reputation, character, and life," he said.

Even so, Harvey did not sue Richard Gadd as the creator and main character of the series. Gadd also refused to talk about the charges.

Netflix representatives said, "We intend to defend this issue firmly and support Richard Gadd's right to tell his story."
