JAKARTA - Christopher Nolan finally won the Best Director award at the Golden Globes thanks to the film Oppenheimer. This film marked Nolan's first Globe award after being nominated three times.

Nolan previously received the nominations for the films Memento (2000), Inception (2010), and Dunkirk (2017). However, his victory was only obtained thanks to Oppenheimer which was released in 2022.

Nolan competes with Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Greta Gerwig (Barbie), Yoorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things), Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon), and Celine Song (Post Lives).

When he received the trophy, Christopher Nolan recalled when he represented the late Heath Ledger.

"The only time I was on this stage before receiving this trophy was on behalf of our dear friend, Heath Ledger, and it was very complicated and challenging for me," Christopher Nolan said today, Monday, January 8.

"I was held back, and Robertbor Jr. looked into my eyes and looked at me with love and support - the same view as now," he said.

"I think it's very easy to accept for myself. But as a director, I realized I could only accept this on behalf of people. As a director, we try to bring everything together and try to give them the best," he continued.

Christopher Nolan then referred to all Oppenheimer's players including the main character, Cillian Murphy whom he referred to as my 'Partner for 20 years.'

Cillian Murphy, who later received the Lead Actor in a Drama award, said Nolan, "Thank you for believing in me for 20 years."

Oppenheimer received eight nominations, the second film with the most nominations in the 2024 Golden Globes.
