Review Of Falling In Love Like In Movies (JESEDEF): Comedy Black And White Romance That Jenius

JAKARTA - Success with Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap (2022), Imaginari production house in collaboration with Cerita Films presents the latest film, Falling in Love Like in Films (or JESEDEF) by Yandy Laurens.

This romantic comedy genre film at first glance looks like a reunion event. The reason is, this film again featured Ringgo Agus Rahman and Nirina Zubir who previously competed in the film Keluarga Cemara (and directed by Yandy Laurens).

In addition, Dion Wiyoko and Sheila Dara also returned to acting after acting in a number of web series and series. The reunion not only brought nostalgia, but also brought a fresh new narrative - and maybe it became special in Indonesian cinema.

Falling in love As in the films tells the story of Bagus (Ringgo Agus Rahman) who meets Hana (Nirina Zubir), a high school friend she meets at the supermarket. Through that brief meeting, Bagus was impressed and began to have feelings for Hana.

When Bagus fell in love, it turned out that Hana was still grieving after being left by her husband (Donne Maula). The meeting was then held by Bagus in a scenario to be submitted as his latest project to Yoram (Alex Abbad), the producer who was waiting for Bagus' work.

However, Bagus also feels the conflict whether he should tell Hana about the project, or choose to continue the scenario without Hana knowing. The idealism of love and mourning became a ravine between Bagus and Hana.

Falling in love As in the films tells this complicated story in black and white domination. Interestingly, the black and white are the plus points in the story. The audience becomes more focused on the emotions that each character brings.

In addition, the black and white format is also a differentiator when Bagus explains his story idea to Yoram. The audience was also involved in following the Bagus process of creating a script and imagining that the script was turned on.

The mention of elements and film techniques adds to the audience's insight in terms of sceneping, drone use, split screen, and placement of titles in films. The story remains rich, flows slowly, but fills the hearts of the audience.

The comedy portion was handed over to Dion Wiyoko and Sheila Dara who played husband and wife. Alex's expression and dialogue also succeeded in creating a laughing moment when the audience was doing a press screening.

The synergy between Bagus and other characters also brought this film to life. Together with Yoram, he will look like a comedy but with Hana, Bagus puts his seriousness into understanding Hana's point of view.

However, the highlight of the whole film is the story combined with Yandy Laurens. There are predicted twists, recurring romance premises, criticism of the industry, but the execution feels fresh to follow.

This film includes two main soundtracks as prologue in the film. The two songs are Making Love in words from Donne Maula and the Memory Angle from Yura Yunita.

Falling in Love Like in films is a romance film that reminds us how beautiful cinema is, how beautiful romance stories are, and how beautiful it is to fall in love.
