JAKARTA - Yandy Laurens released his second film as a director, namely Falling In Love Like in Films (JESEDEF). This time he collaborated with Ernest Prakasa and Dipa Andika from Imaginari as production houses.

Ernest revealed that this film, which is dominated by black and white, is a challenge for him as a filmmaker. The reason is, he had time to consider whether this film would still reach the audience even though the color was different.

"Remember watching the 2016 film Siti and maybe that's the last time watching a black and white Indonesian film," said Ernest Prakasa at a press conference in Kuningan, Jakarta.

"But that's also a consideration when making this project. It's one of the experiences that makes me confident doing this film," he said.

According to him, the black and white color in the JESEDEF film actually helps the audience to focus on their stories and characters.

"There was something odd when the film started and there was no color, but a few minutes after we saw it, we were already tied to the character," said Ernest.

Yandy Laurens explained that this film was inspired by the story of her mother who had lost her father. The idea was then developed in the context of romantic comedy to add to the entertainment side.

I want to catch whether mama has the opportunity to love again. The story develops and experiences change. During the pandemic I realized I wasn't really trying to understand mama, said Yandy Laurens.

"I'm trying to translate how to say love in the rom-com. As a filmmaker, I have a love for cinema. If I say what it is, will it still be a film?" Yandy said.

JESEDEF tells the story of Bagus (Ringgo Agus) who plans to raise the life story of Hana (Nirina Zubir) in the form of a film. Unfortunately, Bagus experienced confusion after knowing Hana could not move on from her husband's departure.

The JESEDEF film will be shown in Indonesian cinemas on November 30, 2023.
