JAKARTA - The summer film competition is coming soon. Director Ryoo Seung Wan comes with his latest film titled Smugglers produced by Next Entertainment World.

His last film, Escape from Mogadishu received a number of awards in South Korea. More than 25 trophies were won and even this film became South Korean representatives for the category Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

As a reliable director in presenting ensembles, Ryoo Seung Wan ensures that it also happens in Smugglers. The film stars top actors such as Kim Hye Soo, Yeom Jung Ah, Jo In Sung, Park Jung Min, Kim Jong Soo and others.

Young actress Go Min Si got the main role for the first time in a big screen film. In addition, Go Min Si's name is also popular thanks to his acting in a number of dramas.

Smugglers also brings good news amid its release. The film will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and be selected as part of the Locarno Film Festival.

In 1970, haenyeo or female divers were assigned to look for fish at sea so that later they could be sold in the market. The income they earn is always minimal even though they need a long time to dive under the sea.

One day, the haenyeos including Jo Chun Ja (Kim Hye Soo) and Marijuana Jin Suk (Yeom Jung Ah) are disappointed. Their catch looks rotten and can't be sold, even though they spend hours diving.

They know that rotten fish are the impact of the establishment of a factory near the beach. The chemical plant dumps liquid into the sea which makes many fish in the sea die.

A broker (Kim Won Hae) came to Jin Suk's father to offer a job of smuggling illegal goods at sea. Haenyeos are assigned to dive and retrieve items dumped by a number of crew members at sea.

Initially, his father refused because Lee Jang Chun (Kim Jong Soo) as the police chief often carried out impromptu inspections in the market. However, in order to earn, Jin Suk's father and his parents worked on the smuggling.

They are happy with this job because their income is easier. However, the smuggling business is starting to become known to others and is widespread, plus Jin Suk's father feels guilty for doing this illegal business.

When they were about to refuse to work, Jin Suk said they had already received a new smuggling schedule so they made the task the last task of their work. Their action turned out to be known by Lee Jang Chun who made them arrested.

Among the haenyeos, Chun Ja disappeared and his friendship with Jin Suk ended. Jin Suk, who was in prison, was determined to take revenge when he was released and met Chun Ja.

A few years later, Chun Ja and Jin Suk were reunited with different circumstances. Jin Suk remains a haenyeo who earns a little, while Chun Ja has succeeded in becoming a rich woman with a classy appearance.

Jin Suk, who wanted revenge, was stopped when Chun Ja returned with the new news. They are also determined to work together again to earn a lot from now on.
