JAKARTA - Indonesian films can be worldwide easily in the digital era. The challenge is to make viewers interested in enjoying it. Director Joko Anwar said that Indonesian films or series can still be enjoyed by other countries as long as they have a universal story.

"I believe that an interesting story is a story that has a universal theme but is told from the point of view from where the series or filmmaker come from," said Joko, quoted from ANTARA, Monday, September 5.

According to Joko, stories taken with local issues and cultural backgrounds can still be connected to foreign communities. In fact, this can be a reflection for viewers in other parts of the world.

"For example, talking about divorce, but from the point of view of the filmmaker. In Indonesia, divorce is easy, for example, but regulations in other countries are difficult. In other countries, it can be reflected," Joko said at a press conference for the launch of "Netflix Indonesia" in Jakarta, Friday.

Furthermore, Joko said that the Indonesian filmmakers now have big challenges in the film industry, not only Indonesia but also the world.

The development of digital platforms, requires filmmakers to continue to improve their capabilities in order to have global competitiveness.

In addition, every film or series is expected to be able to show uniqueness or authentic elements of the life of the Indonesian people. This can be an attraction in itself for foreign audiences.

"Inevitably we have to improve our skills. There must be something special about the film or series, what is the uniqueness of the character, what is the uniqueness of the country," he said.

Joko himself joined six Indonesian filmmakers in "Netflix Indonesia Time". This time, he will present a sci-fi thriller series entitled "Nightares and Daydreams".

This series tells the story of people who experience various strange events. With various plots, these stories eventually intertwined and reached a dramatic end.
