Jealousy isn't always a bad thing, says Nicholas Balaisis, Ph.D., RP., a psychotherapist who practices in Toronto, Canada. Reported by Psychology Today, Balaisis explained that jealousy is often considered a bad thing but it can be a sign of attention and a factor in a relationship. With jealousy, it means that the partner does not take the relationship lightly. In fact, the absence of jealousy can be a sign of indifference or even insensitivity to vulnerability.

In some cases, anxiety and jealousy need to be activated. Because then each partner maintains a closer bond of commitment. This means that when your partner is jealous, don't panic. Investigate and accept it as a sign that the relationship is meaningful to everyone in the couple. But when you can't control your emotions, this can be a problem.

It is important for you to re-check your partner's relationship history. What experiences have shaped his bad story in the past that makes jealousy uncontrollable. Because insecure past relationships can shape current attitudes. So try to reframe the events experienced. Try to empathize rather than respond more emotionally.

In addition, Balaisis also suggests the need to define boundaries for oneself. As the saying goes, there is no smoke without fire. This means that you need to set boundaries in communicating with your ex. Even though the intention is just a light thing, it doesn't mean anything. Balaisis advises, one needs to pay attention to when and how we relate to other people. Being open and transparent can help reduce jealous outbursts.
