JAKARTA - Nintendo game fans should be more patient if waiting for the Super Mario Bros. movie version. Japanese video game maker Nintendo Co Ltd said on Tuesday that it was delaying the release of its Super Mario Bros. film until April 2023, having previously been scheduled for release on December 21 this year.

Quoted from Reuters, Nintendo said the new release dates are April 7, 2023 for North America and April 28 for Japan. This upcoming adaptation of Nintendo's video game series is the game's collaboration with studios Universal and Illumination Entertainment.

"After consulting with Chris-san, (producer Chris Meledandri), my partner at Illumination on Super Mario Bros., we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023," said Super Mario Bros. series creator and Nintendo chairman Shigeru Miyamoto.

"My deepest apologies but I promise it will be worth the time we wait," he added, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 26.

With Super Mario Bros.'s release date being pushed back, it's reported that Universal has also moved the release date of DreamWorks Animation's Puss in Boots: The Last Wish to a December 21 release date.

The spin-off sequel Shrek was previously set to hit theaters on September 23. After years of pregnancy, plans for an animated Super Mario Bros. film began to whiten in 2018, with Nintendo and Universal announcing a partnership on the project.

In September 2021, Nintendo revealed the voice cast for the Super Mario Bros. film, selecting Chris Pratt to voice the protagonist.

There is also Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Mario's original voice actor, Charles Martinet, will have a cameo role in the film.
