The Silent Sea Gets Mixed Responses, Gong Yoo Satisfied

JAKARTA - Actor Gong Yoo becomes the main character in the latest Netflix series, The Silent Sea. His name is increasingly known after appearing briefly through Squid Game.

The Silent Sea series which was released last December caused a different response. Not a few who gave bad reviews to the series even compared to the success of Squid Game.

The Silent Sea was considered a success and was ranked seventh on the first day of release, but the response was divided into two, namely criticism and praise.

Gong Yoo who knows this is still satisfied with the result. He always wants to try new things in the world of acting.

“I watched with satisfaction with the result. I don't have a specific desire for the sci-fi genre, but I do want to do a series with a certain genre. That's when I met 'The Silent Sea' and sci-fi. I am very satisfied with the results," Gong Yoo quoted Sports Chosun as saying.

“When I received the script and started filming, I knew some people would love it and hate it. Since it's a sci-fi genre, that comparison would be extreme," continued Gong Yoo.

According to him, through this series they can explore new genres, but that doesn't mean they think they are the best productions.

"It's not that we feel great, but I think we open the door for potential development (of the sci-fi genre). This is an important first step for the space science fiction genre in the South Korean film industry," he said.

“A lot of people are watching with different perspectives but I think it's the different perspectives that sparked interest in the drama. So I am grateful,” said the 42-year-old man.

The Silent Sea tells the story of Han Yoon Jae (Gong Yoo), a space agency soldier who is ordered to lead a team to go to Balhae Station. The series can be watched on Netflix.
