JAKARTA - The Teka Teki Tika film is Ernest Prakasa's latest work after two years of 'disappearance' due to the pandemic. Through his sixth film, he tries to play with a new genre but is not far from a family story.

Teka Teki Tika tells the story of the Budiman family (Ferry Salim) who is celebrating their wedding anniversary with his wife, Sherly (Jenny Zhang). Budiman invites his two children, Arnold (Dion Wiyoko) and Andre (Morgan Oey).

Arnold is the eldest who is expecting his first child with Laura (Eriska Rein). Meanwhile, Andre introduces his new girlfriend, Jane (Tansri Kemala) who first meets her lover's family.

Budiman also shared his joy because he got a big project from the government. He and Sherly had already imagined the benefits they would receive from the project.

However, Budiman's feelings began to fray after a woman named Tika (Sheila Dara) came to the house and claimed to be her child. Tika asks for compensation for neglecting her since she was a child.

Budiman's family is divided. They began to wonder if Tika was bringing up a fact or a hoax. Their conflict will be answered through the film Teka Teki Tika.

The premise of the story that Ernest Prakasa offers is something fresh. Not many Indonesian films show family stories with a mix of mystery and thriller.

This is supported by the production design which was said to be imitating Knives Out. In fact, this film has a story development that is far from the film directed by Rian Johnson.

Throughout the film, the audience will be curious about the figure of Tika who is trying to intimidate the Budiman family. Not to mention the existence of several other conflicts that make Tika's character lead the story.

Unfortunately, because of the many layers of the story, its development seems rushed. Ernest knows how to put the comedy part in the middle of the Budiman family conflict but the rest of the drama is less emotional.

Talking about acting, Sheila Dara looks cool as Tika who is relaxed but mysterious. Likewise, Tansri Kemala's first acting with her chatter with Morgan Oey.

Ernest presents a surprise by putting a few twists at the end of the story and that part can make you chuckle in awe. Overall, Ernest has his own formula with the family drama genre. This time you could say he wanted to experiment with family stories with a dominant mystery.

The Teka Teki Tika film opens in theaters starting December 23, 2021.
