JAKARTA - In the digital era, children are increasingly interacting with gadget screens both for study and entertainment. However, excessive screen time habits have a serious impact on their eye health.
Starting from dry eyes, running away, so long-term visual impairments can appear if they are not balanced with the management of the use of wise digital devices.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, highlighted this issue while attending the launch of the Free Health Check Program (CKG) for Schools at SMP Catholic Penaburan, Gading Serpong, Tangerang Regency, as quoted by ANTARA.
Meutya said, one of the results of the examination from the School CKG program which was quite striking was the discovery of eye health problems in a number of students. He considered this to be a consequence of the high intensity of using gadgets.
"From the medical examination earlier, one of the most important findings is the matter of eye health. This is very likely related to the current habit of children who have been exposed to gadget screens for a long time," said Meutya.

According to him, this condition should be a common concern, especially for parents. Supervision of the duration and way children use digital devices needs to be done so that the impact on health, especially the eyes, can be minimized.
Parents need to be more active in directing their children about the use of gadgets. We understand that it cannot be completely prohibited, but it must be regulated wisely so as not to interfere with their eye health," Meutya urged.
Furthermore, he explained that the School's Free Health Check Program (CKG) was part of the national initiative of the Fast Best Results Program (PHTC) carried by President Prabowo Subianto.
This program targets health checks on 53 million students throughout Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke, without a single student being missed.
"Through the CKG School, we want to ensure that all Indonesian children get the same rights in health services, in order to support the formation of the 2045 Golden Generation," explained Meutya.
