JAKARTA - Efforts to eradicate drug abuse in Gorontalo Province continue to be carried out through a cross-sectoral approach, including from the public health aspect.
The Gorontalo Provincial Health Office played an important role in supporting strategic steps to combat the circulation and abuse of narcotics and illegal drugs in the region.
"We are mobilizing the resources we have to make the Gorontalo Clean and Healthy from Drugs or 'Direct' program a form of commitment in fighting drugs," said Head of the Gorontalo Provincial Health Office, dr. Anang S. Autoluwa, in Gorontalo, as quoted by ANTARA.
According to him, all levels of the Health Service, including the United Women's Dharma organization (DWP), are actively involved in supporting the implementation of the 'Direct' program.
"As part of the health sector, we are obliged to be at the forefront of efforts to create an environment free from drugs, and ensure that people live in a healthy condition and are safe from abuse of addictive substances," he added after attending the launch of the program.
He emphasized that the involvement of his agency is a tangible form of contribution to drug prevention and control through a public health approach.

Prevention of drug trafficking is not only the responsibility of law enforcement officers, but also the responsibility of the health world because the impact of drugs is very detrimental to the physical and mental of the community. Therefore, education and health intervention are an important part of this effort.
Anang also expressed his appreciation for the cross-sectoral collaboration between the Gorontalo Provincial Government, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and Bank SulutGo (BSG) which supports this activity.
In addition to the anti-drug declaration, the event was also enlivened with various positive activities such as healthy gymnastics, blood donation, traditional culinary recitation, and giving gifts to participants.
"This kind of activity shows that the promotion of healthy living can be done in a fun and inclusive manner. The hope is that more people are aware of the dangers of drugs and are at the same time encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle in their daily lives," concluded Anang.
