JAKARTA - Entering the age of 50, various changes can occur in the body, both for men and women. These changes can also be related to sexual.

"It's very important to note that changes in sexual feelings and functions as we get older are normal," said sexologist and sexuality educator Lawrence Siegel, quoted by Huffpost, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Some of the changes that occur in the sexual life of men and women at that age are as follows.

1. Negative belief in sexuality and aging

The mindset of sex as we age has a major impact on sex life. Negative beliefs about sex and aging can arise, which will certainly greatly affect sexual activity.

Those in their 50s often think that sexual abilities are reduced because of that age. In fact, in practice many people in that age group have a good or even better one than when they were young.

"Most people in this age group are more confident and have experience knowing what they want and can be much more assertive towards your partner," he said.

2. Drought in the vagina

In women in their 50s there will be a decrease in estrogen levels due to menopause, which can cause drought in the vagina. These conditions can affect their sexual function.

"This causes a painful or uncomfortable sexual experience for some people. That's why all women over 50 should have a good lubricant," added Siegel.

3. Challenge erectile and ejaculation

In men in their 50s, they will face challenges in an erection and get ejaculation during sexual intercourse.

"They won't have the same type of spontaneous erection or reflection as they used to be," he said.

Experiencing erectile problems from time to time is not a strange thing. However, a man if not overcome it can cause erectile dysfunction. Therefore, it is advisable to exercise regularly and consult a doctor to find out the underlying conditions.
