Karies Becomes A Frequent Dental Problem, It Can Cause Heart Problems If Not Overcome!

JAKARTA - Dental health must be maintained properly, because if you can't bring various problems, one of them is caries. Karies or commonly known as cavities is tooth damage caused by acid produced by bacteria in the mouth.

Founder & Medical Director of JNJ Specialist Dental Center, drg. Jeddy, Sp.KGA, said that caries are the most common dental health problems and are a scourge in society that must be faced.

"The most common problem in dental health problems is caries or cavities," said Doctor Jeddy, in the Senayan area, Jakarta, written on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

The impact of good caries can interfere with various things. Starting from pain in unbearable teeth, to revocation of teeth if conditions are very severe which can eventually interfere with the function of chewing.

"The impact of these caries is everywhere. Theories caused damaged teeth, toothaches, and eventually caused teeth to disappear or be removed, resulting in reduced tongue function," he explained.

Not only that, but caries can also cause heart problems, namely endocarditis. This is inflammation of the endocardium, which is the inner lining of the heart including the heart valve.

This condition can occur because bacteria come from the mouth through blood flow to the heart. Endocarditis can be a serious condition and even threatens life if it is not treated quickly.

"The problem of healthy teeth that are many bacteria if not properly maintained can cause endocarditis in the heart, because bacteria that come from the mouth are the most happy to live in the heart," he said.

Therefore, Doctor Jeddy suggested that people should start actively checking dental health regularly with doctors. You don't have to wait for toothaches first, because by going to a dentist from an early age, prevention can be done better.

"But the patient often doesn't know if his teeth are in trouble. Therefore, it is very important to have his dental health checked at the dentist," said Doctor Jeddy.
