JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources continues to strengthen monitoring of the implementation of the obligation to meet domestic coal needs or Domestic Market Obligation (DMO), both for the electricity and non-electricity sectors.
To meet PLN's coal needs of 154 million metric tons by 2026, the Directorate General of Mining has assigned mining business entities that have RKAB with a total volume of 212 million metric tons.
Director General of Minerals and Coal Tri Winarno said the assignment was a government step to ensure the adequacy and sustainability of coal supplies for PLN power plants.
"The Directorate General of Mining regularly monitors compliance with the implementation of DMO, both for the electricity and non-electricity sectors. To meet PLN's needs of 154 million metric tons, we have assigned mining business entities with a total volume of 212 million metric tons," said Tri Winarno in Jakarta, Saturday, July 11.
Until May 2026, a total of 144 million metric tons of assignments have been contracted, with an estimated realization of shipments reaching 130.5 million metric tons. Tri explained that PLN must accelerate contracts so that coal assignments can immediately be realized into shipments to PLTU.
"The contract is the basis for the implementation of coal delivery to the power plant. Therefore, we continue to encourage PLN Energy Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) to accelerate the contract process so that the assignment that has been given can immediately be realized into delivery," he said.
The Directorate General of Mining continues to coordinate with PLN EPI and mining business entities to ensure the timely supply of coal to the power plant, according to volume, and meet specifications.
"The government continues to ensure that PLN's coal needs in the second semester of 2026 can be met according to the schedule and specifications of the plant. For this reason, coordination and acceleration of contract completion need to continue," said Tri.
Through strengthening monitoring and accelerating contracts, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is committed to maintaining the reliability of coal supply for the national electricity sector and ensuring that the implementation of DMO is carried out consistently and measured.
