PT Waskita Karya (Persero) is entrusted to build three People's Schools (SR) areas in Papua Province with a total contract value of IDR 1.07 trillion. The project is part of efforts to expand access to quality education while accelerating equitable development in East Indonesia.

Through the Waskita-Adhi-PAB Operation Cooperation (KSO), the project will be implemented in Jayapura Regency, Sarmi Regency and Biak Numfor Regency. All work is targeted to be completed in about 5.5 months.

Thus, the education facility can begin to be utilized in January 2027.

Waskita Karya Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita said that the construction of the SR was part of the company's commitment to improving the quality of human resources, especially in the Papua region.

"The construction of People's Schools in Papua is not merely to provide educational infrastructure, but to be a long-term investment to build a superior generation of Indonesia," said Ermy as quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, July 8.

The scope of work carried out by Waskita Karya includes SD, SMP and SMA classrooms, male and female dormitories, multipurpose buildings, teachers' apartments, houses of worship, canteens, fields and various other supporting facilities. All of these facilities are designed to be an integrated educational area.

Even though they have received trust from the government to build the education infrastructure, said Ermy, his party admitted that there were logistical challenges to face, namely its location in the easternmost region of Indonesia.

For this reason, the company has prepared strategies, such as mobilizing materials, equipment and resources in an integrated manner through the Jayapura, Sarmi and Biak Ports. Thus, it is hoped that the construction of the education infrastructure can be completed according to target.

According to Waskita Karya, the presence of the People's School is expected not only to expand access to quality education, but also to encourage local economic growth, create jobs and move the regional supply chain.

By prioritizing the principles of good corporate governance, occupational safety, innovation and sustainability, the company states that it is able to provide high-standard and globally competitive infrastructure solutions.

"The Company believes that every project built not only produces physical assets, but also creates a foundation for improving the quality of life of the community and the competitiveness of the nation in the future," he concluded.
