One Year After the Flood Damage, the Construction of the Kemang Pratama Bridge is Almost Complete

JAKARTA - After more than a year of disruption due to damage caused by flooding, the handling of the Kemang Pratama Bridge in Bekasi City, West Java, is now nearing completion.

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) noted that the progress of rebuilding the bridge had reached 92.91 percent as of May 28, 2026.

If it is completed according to the target in August 2026, the bridge will again become an important access connecting the Kemang Pratama, Galaxy, Jatiasih areas to the toll road network in Bekasi.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the reconstruction of the Kemang Pratama Bridge was carried out to ensure that community connectivity was maintained, especially in urban areas with high mobility.

"This bridge was built to reduce travel time, reduce vehicle operating costs, and increase the safety and comfort of road users. The benefits must be felt directly by the community," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Tuesday, June 2.

The Kemang Pratama Bridge previously suffered damage to the abutment after being eroded by the flow of water during heavy rain in Bekasi in March 2025.

The damage disrupted traffic in the South Bekasi area and its surroundings.

Residents who usually cross the path to reach residential areas, the center of economic activity, and toll road access are forced to use alternative routes further.

Interestingly, although the bridge is under the management of the Bekasi City Government (Pemkot), the handling of its construction is carried out by the central government through the DKI Jakarta-West Java National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN).

This step was taken to accelerate the recovery of infrastructure which is considered to have a direct impact on people's daily activities.

In addition to connecting densely populated residential areas, the Kemang Pratama Bridge also has a strategic role because it is one of the connecting accesses to the West Bekasi Toll Road and Jatiasih Toll Road.

The existence of the bridge is considered important in supporting commuter mobility as well as facilitating the distribution of goods and economic activities in the Bekasi area and its surroundings.

In terms of construction, the new bridge was built using a steel box girder structure on the main span of 78 meters.

Meanwhile, the lower structure uses a borepile foundation with a diameter of 80 centimeters with FC'30 structural concrete to increase the construction's resistance to high traffic loads.

The total length of the construction handling reaches 410 meters with a bridge width of 7 meters.

The work also includes handling the entrance on both sides of the bridge, namely Entrance A1 along 20 meters and Entrance A2 along 230 meters.

Currently, the work is focused on the completion of rigid pavement for the driveway and approach roads as well as asphalt finishing on the main span of the bridge.

The construction of the Kemang Pratama Bridge was carried out under a Multi Years Contract (MYC) scheme for 300 calendar days starting from October 31, 2025.

Based on data from the Ministry of PU, the progress of work as of May 28, 2026 reached 92.91 percent, higher than the planned target of 85.96 percent.

Thus, the project recorded a positive deviation of 6.95 percent or faster than the schedule.

Meanwhile, the progress of work in the 2026 fiscal year has reached 92.06 percent, surpassing the target of 84.06 percent with a positive deviation of 7.97 percent.

In the midst of construction in densely populated urban areas, BBPJN DKI Jakarta-West Java continues to coordinate with the Bekasi City Government, the Transportation Service (Dishub), the police, and the surrounding community to ensure that traffic arrangements continue to run smoothly.
