JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said the development of a CNG gas cylinder for a capacity of 3 kilograms (kg) involved the Ministry of Industry and the National Standardization Agency (BSN).

Laode aims for CNG to replace 3 kg cylinder LPG starting this year to reduce dependence on energy imports.
However, he did not elaborate further on whether the policy of converting LPG into CNG would affect Indonesia's commitment to importing LPG from the United States.
"It's still too far, yes. Because we also just want to start, just want to pilot project. So, all of those stages take time," said Laode.
After attending a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/5), Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia explained that CNG is not a new technology because it has been used in the hospitality sector, restaurants, to the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.
However, its utilization has so far been limited to large-capacity cylinders above 10 to 20 kg.
He added that if the trial results are deemed feasible, the government will open the opportunity for a gradual conversion from LPG to CNG for household needs.
According to Bahlil, CNG has an advantage because all of its raw materials are available in the country, including abundant natural gas sources.
In addition, the government has also discovered new gas reserves in East Kalimantan which could potentially be allocated for domestic needs.
