Head of the Communication Department of Bank Indonesia, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said that the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Juda Agung, had submitted his resignation to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, effective January 13, 2026.

He added, regarding the vacancy of the Deputy Governor's position, the Governor of Bank Indonesia has recommended a candidate to President Prabowo.

"Furthermore, the President proposes and appoints the Deputy Governor-elect as agreed by the House of Representatives. This is regulated in Articles 41, 48, and 50 of the Bank Indonesia Law as last amended by Law No. 3 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK Law)," he said in his statement, Monday, January 19.

Denny conveyed that Bank Indonesia remained committed to carrying out its main duties in achieving and maintaining the stability of the rupiah value, maintaining the smooth running of the payment system, and maintaining the stability of the financial system to support sustainable economic growth.

"Including currently Bank Indonesia will focus on the implementation of the January 2026 Board of Governors Meeting whose decision will be announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026," he said.

Previously, the Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mukhamad Misbakhun, spoke out regarding public concerns regarding the independence of the Bank Indonesia, especially regarding one of the candidates who has a family relationship with President Prabowo Subianto.

The three names proposed are Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono, Head of the BI Payment System Policy Department Dicky Kartikoyono, Assistant Governor Head of the BI Macroprudential Policy Department, Solikin M. Juhro.

He explained that the entire process of proposing candidates for Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, including Senior Deputy Governor, was a proposal from Bank Indonesia which was submitted to the President, then forwarded to the House of Representatives (DPR) through a Presidential Letter (Supres).

"The surprise was just discussed at Bamus and assigned to Commission XI, tomorrow Commission XI will hold an internal meeting to arrange the schedule for the fit and proper test," he told the media, Monday, January 19.

Misbakhun said that the Surpres was issued due to the resignation of the previous official.

Regarding the reason for the resignation of BI Deputy Governor Juda Agung, Misbakhun said that it was stated in the Surpres, but he had not read it directly because the document was still in the Secretariat of the Consultative Body.

He emphasized that the vacancy should not last too long so that the replacement process needs to be carried out immediately.
