JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has deployed volunteers to be directly involved in disaster management efforts and early recovery of affected communities in Aceh.

The involvement of BNI volunteers is part of a joint action of the BUMN Family through the BUMN Peduli 'One Heart for Sumatra' program which is under the coordination of Danantara Indonesia.

BNI volunteers were sent along with hundreds of volunteers from 11 SOEs and focused on strengthening humanitarian activities in the affected areas, especially North Aceh and South East Aceh, which are the main post points for disaster handling.

The release of volunteers was carried out at the Kualanamu International Airport, Medan, and was led by the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency and Danantara Indonesia COO, Dony Oskaria, and was attended by representatives of state-owned enterprise management, including BNI's ranks.

In the field implementation, BNI volunteers joined cross-BUMN volunteers to distribute logistical assistance, clean the environment, residents' houses, and public facilities, as part of efforts to accelerate the recovery of community activities after disasters.

As a form of operational support, BNI also provided logistical assistance through three truck units, which carried hygiene supplies, sanitation support materials, and supporting equipment such as water tanks, water pumps, generators, and volunteer safety equipment. This assistance is prepared to support the immediate needs of the community and volunteer activities in the field.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that volunteer involvement is a form of concern and social responsibility of BNI as part of SOEs.

"Through the direct involvement of volunteers, BNI wants to ensure that the assistance not only arrives, but also really feels the benefits of the affected community. The presence of volunteers is expected to help accelerate the recovery process so that residents can gradually return to activities," said Okki in a written statement.

"The BNI volunteers who were deployed came from various work units in the Sumatra region, including BNI Region 01, Region 02, KC Medan, KC University of North Sumatra, and KC Industrial Area Medan, as a form of spirit of mutual cooperation and solidarity of BNI people.

"Through the synergy of SOEs in the BUMN Care program, all assistance and volunteer activities are carried out with a coordinated approach and based on field needs, in line with the principles of fast, accurate, and impactful work.

"This BUMN synergy shows the strong commitment of state-owned companies in serving and protecting the community, especially when facing emergency situations due to disasters," said Okki.

"BNI together with the BUMN Family will continue to monitor the development of conditions in Aceh and adjust the necessary support as part of the active role of BUMN in supporting the recovery of disaster-affected communities.

"The BNI humanitarian activities and social programs can be accessed through www.bni.co.id, which is part of the Danantara Indonesia ecosystem (www.danantaraindonesia.co.id)," said the Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations of BNI, Adi Suparman.
