The Government Claims That The Handling Of Roads And Bridges Due To The Sumatra Flash Floods Has Been 68.66 Percent

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the handling of road and bridge infrastructure damaged by floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra (North Sumatra), and West Sumatra (West Sumatra).

Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo said, until December 9, 2025 at 20.00 WIB, 72 national roads and 30 national bridges were badly damaged, with the progress of handling in North Sumatra reaching the highest figure, namely 78.69 percent.

"The access to roads and bridges is the main key to logistics movement, emergency services and community economic recovery. Community safety and smooth mobility are our priorities," said Dody in an official statement, Wednesday, December 10.

Then, continued Dody, in Aceh Province, with the progress of handling reaching 51.14 percent, recovery efforts were focused on the Krueng Meureudu Bridge and the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge.

He targets that the mobilization of the bailey bridge on the Bireuen route, Central Aceh (Jamur Ujung, et al.) can be functional gradually until the end of December 2025. A total of 60 excavators have been deployed to the field.

Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province, which recorded the fastest progress was 78.69 percent, as many as 12 national roads and 4 national bridges were affected by the disaster.

Emergency handling is prioritized in the main corridor which is still cut off, including Tarutung Sibolga and Sibolga Batangtoru.

To ensure mobility is maintained, said Dody, temporary access is opened through alternative routes such as Sidikalang's 'Just' Sibolga.

The North Sumatra National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) is also focused on dealing with major landslides in Angin Nauli, Sibolga City, by deploying fleets including 72 excavators and 770 geobags.

In West Sumatra Province, the progress has reached 76.14 percent, the affected infrastructure covers 30 national roads and 12 national bridges.

The main focus of recovery is the Padang National Road, Bukittinggi, especially in the Anai Valley area KM 63+500 which is the largest landslide point.

Dody added that despite facing 12 additional landslide points, a number of major inter-city and district access in West Sumatra were successfully reopened, including Padang' Padang' Patarman' North Sumatra Border and coastal crossings.

Emergency handling in West Sumatra is reinforced by the deployment of 41 excavators and 630 wire gabions to maintain slope stability.

Thus, if averaged, the government claims that handling in three areas affected by flash floods has reached around 68.66 percent.

Secara total hingga 9 Desember 2025, Kementerian PU telah memobilisasi 310 personel, 395 unit alat berat, 313 unit alat pendukung serta 3.600 unit bahan darurat seperti geobag dan bronjong kawat di tiga provinsi terdampak.

"Kami bekerja tanpa jeda sejak awal untuk memastikan keterisolasian wilayah bisa ditangani secepat mungkin," imbuhnya.

In total until December 9, 2025, the Ministry of Public Works has mobilized 310 personnel, 395 units of heavy equipment, 313 units of supporting equipment and 3,600 units of emergency materials such as geobags and wire gabions in three affected provinces.

"We worked without pause from the start to ensure regional isolation can be handled as quickly as possible," he added.
