The completion of the Sukamahi Glass Bridge project in Bogor Regency, West Java, has withdrawn from the initial target set. Initially, the construction of the glass bridge was targeted for completion on December 31, 2025.

However, the construction of the bridge is targeted to be completed on May 16, 2025, aka an additional 5 months.

PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk WIKA as the project implementing contractor also revealed the cause. Site Manager Operation of the Glass Bridge Project Ridwan Budi Santoso said that one of the reasons for the postponement of the project was because the construction of the first glass bridge was carried out in Indonesia.

"So, the Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge is a new technology in Indonesia. So, frankly, there are adjustments, both from planning to implementation," said Ridwan to the media crew at Sukamahi Dam, Bogor Regency, West Java, Wednesday, November 26.

"Well, that causes this planning process to shift the progress of our work," he continued.

It is known, the progress of the construction of the glass bridge has now reached 81.35 percent.

According to Ridwan, the determination of new materials that took a long time until the approval of its use was also the cause of the delay in the completion of the bridge project.

"In the past, when we tested it to Australia, yes, to make sure that this material was suitable for use. It turned out that when it was applied at the Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge, it could not be used," he explained.

"Well, the processes yesterday with the Ministry of Public Works, the Directorate General of Highways, finally caused a delay in the event," he continued.

However, said Ridwan, there has been compensation from the government so that WIKA will increase the extension of the completion time until May 2026.

"So, there is a delay for maybe five months, yes, as a result of ensuring that this wire rod that uses the latest technology can later be implemented properly in Indonesia and is not negatively affected by the structure of the Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge," he added.

To note, WIKA has signed a contract for the construction and supervision of the Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge worth Rp. 185 billion with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) since September 10, 2024.

The Sukamahi Dam Glass Bridge is 275 meters long and is expected to attract tourists to visit the Sukamahi Dam.

The scope of work includes the bore pile, counter weight and pylon foundations, the main & hanger hanging cable, the steel deck structure to the glass floor.

The purpose of building the suspension bridge is as a means of tourism in the Sukamahi Dam area with views of Mount Salak and Pangrango, in order to improve the economy in the Sukamahi area, Bogor Regency, and its surroundings.
