JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized that the agricultural sector contributed 14.35 percent to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2025, making it part of driving economic growth and national food security pillars.

Amran considered this achievement as clear evidence that agriculture is now not only a food provider, but also the main driver of the people's economy.

"We should not just think about planting and harvesting. Agriculture must provide added value. We encourage downstreaming and exports so that farmers enjoy larger results," Amran said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 5.

With increasing contributions, Amran continued, the agricultural sector not only maintains national food security, but is also an important foundation for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

It is said that the agricultural sector together with forestry and fisheries plays a major support for the national economy, with a contribution reaching 14.35 percent of the national GDP in the third quarter of 2025.

That figure increased from 13.83 percent in the previous quarter, placing agriculture the second-largest contributor after the manufacturing industry, as well as showing the resilience of the sector amid global economic challenges.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released on November 5, 2025, the value of the agricultural sector's GDP in the third quarter of 2025 reached IDR 869.4 trillion (appropriate price), up from IDR 822.6 trillion in the second quarter of 2025.

Really, the agricultural sector grew 3.32 percent (q-to-q) and 4.93 percent (y-on-y), with a cumulative growth of 5.37 percent (c-to-c) compared to the same period last year.

This positive performance shows that the government's policy in strengthening food security and increasing agricultural productivity is starting to bear fruit.

The program to modernize agricultural tools and machinery, repair irrigation, and expand planting areas also supports the increase in the output of this sector.

Spatially, strong regional economic growth in Sulawesi (5.84 percent), Java (5.17 percent), and Sumatra (4.90 percent) also showed the big role of food center areas in national economic stability.

In terms of foreign trade, exports of goods and services increased 9.91 percent (yoy), this is in line with efforts to downstream agriculture and increase the competitiveness of export commodities such as palm oil, coffee, and horticultural products that are continuously being developed.
