JAKARTA - Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that his party had proposed a national car program to be designated as a national strategic project (PSN).
"We certainly support and we have proposed a national car program to become PSN, a national strategic project," Agus said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 21.
Agus explained that the proposal had been signed. With PSN status, he said, project implementation is expected to run faster.
"Anyway, when everything is prepared by PSN, everything is ready. So the status of PSN used to be fought for, we have proposed it," said Agus.
Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said that the government had started the first steps to present cars made in Indonesia in the next three years.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it is not yet an achievement, but we have started to getrintis. We will have a car made in Indonesia in the next three years," Prabowo said in an introductory speech to the Plenary Cabinet Session, at the State Palace, Jakarta.
Prabowo said the government had prepared an allocation of funds and land for the construction of factories that would produce domestic vehicles. Currently, the development team is said to be working on preparing this.
"I have allocated funds, we have prepared land for the factories. They are working now as a team," said the Head of State.
The President revealed that Indonesia has succeeded in producing court-type vehicles used by TNI officials and officers. The vehicle is a matter of pride because it is designed and made domestically.
