JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) together with the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) signed a Joint Decree (SKB) on Synergy in the Implementation of Islamic Boarding School Education Infrastructure at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture office, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 14.
The signing of the SKB was signed by the Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar and Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, to ensure the reliability of the Islamic boarding school infrastructure building (ponpes).
This follows the tragedy of the collapse of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building in Sidoarjo, East Java, which collapsed on Monday, September 29, 2025.
One of the things most highlighted in the incident was the problem of the absence of Building Approval (PBG). In addition, it is said that the construction of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School is also carried out independently by students without clear standards.
"Through today's agreement, we want to strengthen the role of the local government as the spearhead of development so that every pesantren no matter how small we get attention from all of us. Starting from licensing, building certification to technical assistance," said Dody.
"Everything can now be done from the regions, we at the center of the Ministry of Public Works are ready to always help," he continued.
Dody explained, simple buildings (under 2 floors) have been provided with prototypes in the Building Management Information System (SIMBG), while the Islamic boarding school building above 2 floors will soon be made a prototype.
In addition, the Ministry of Public Works is conducting the reliability assessment of Islamic boarding schools in 8 provinces with the highest number of Islamic boarding schools, such as West Java, East Java, Banten, Central Java, Aceh, South Sumatra, South Sulawesi and South Kalimantan.
A total of 80 Islamic boarding schools are samples for the reliability assessment of buildings and repair the standard for safe and habitable Islamic boarding schools for students.
"Not looking for mistakes, but to build learning together how to make study spaces strong, cool and safe," he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar said that his party would carry out intensive data collection on Islamic boarding schools, madrasas to places of worship.
According to him, there are still many of these buildings located in slope areas, making them prone to landslides.
"And thank God, together with the entire network of the Ministry of Religion is vertical. From the Ministry of Religion, the head of the regional office of the Ministry of Religion, then the offices of the Ministry of Religion at the district and city levels are middle. Then, to the KUA-KUA sub-district level and all the extension workers who are scattered around 300,000 groups are in total throughout Indonesia," he said.

"We are also mobilizing to provide data on which buildings, which Islamic boarding schools, which houses of worship have a slope level. Many of them are built at a slope level prone to landslides," he continued.
Therefore, according to Nasaruddin Umar, this needs to get the government's attention in the future.
"This is what makes us all concerned. We also certainly appeal to the public after all, the children who are queuing in Islamic boarding schools are children of the nation as well," he explained.
On the same occasion, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian asked the local government (Pemda) not only to approve buildings (PBG), but in the future to be able to carry out supervision.
This needs to be done so that events such as at the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo, East Java, will no longer happen again.
"From friends of local governments, they are a little reluctant to go to madrasas, Islamic boarding schools to remind them. Actually, the role of local governments is not only to issue, but also to supervise," said Tito.
"Supervising buildings, whether they have been completed or are being built. Whether there is a PBG or not," he concluded.
