JAKARTA - The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) encourages the strengthening of the role of national honey entrepreneurs in supporting and entering the supply chain of the Free Nutrition Food Program (MBG).

"Mandu is a natural gift that is rich in benefits. Its bioactive content is able to increase endurance, strengthen learning concentration, and accelerate health recovery. Therefore, honey deserves to be an important part in building a healthy generation towards Indonesia Gold 2045," said MSME Minister Maman Abdurrahman, quoted Friday, October 10.

He added that the MBG Program is not only aimed at ensuring the nutritional intake of Indonesian children, but also opens up great opportunities for strengthening the people's economy through the involvement of honey-producing MSMEs in the national supply chain.

In line with this, the Deputy for Small Business at the Ministry of MSMEs, Temmy Satya Permana, said that honey has great potential to become an important component in the MBG menu thanks to its nutritional content rich in energy, vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds.

"The integration of honey in the MBG Program not only enriches the quality of nutrition, but also provides added economic value through the use of sustainable local products," said Temmy.

However, he reminded, there is still a gap between national honey needs and production.

Based on data from the Ministry of MSMEs, the need for honey in Indonesia reaches around 7,500 tons per year, assuming consumption per capita is 30 grams per year, while national production is only around 2,000 tons per year.

"This means that there is still a large space to increase the production capacity and quality of local honey," he said.
