Coordinating Minister AHY Will Offer Giant Sea Wall Project At IISF 2025

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) will offer a giant sea embankment project or Giant Sea Wall at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2025.

AHY said the forum became a platform to present investment opportunities in sustainable infrastructure development that protect the north coast of Java from the threat of climate change.

According to him, the project, which stretches from Banten to East Java, will be one of the main focuses in the 2025 IISF.

"We will re-show this project as part of the sustainable infrastructure resilient, prioritize environmentally friendly technology and protect the community," AHY said at the 2025 Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) Preparation meeting at the BKPM office, Jakarta, Wednesday, October 1.

The chairman of the Democratic Party added that his party will also hold more intensive talks with various countries and stakeholders who are interested in investing in Indonesia.

It is known that the giant sea embankment project was designed as a long-term solution to sea level rise and tidal flooding.

In addition to using a concrete structure, AHY said, the construction will be integrated with nature-based solutions such as using mangroves for example.

"This is a big project. Several times it has been closed, the President has also given directions to jointly oversee the development of Giant Sea Wall," explained AHY.

To note, Giant Sea Wall is a mega project that requires enormous investment.

Tak main-main, pemerintah menghitung proyek tersebut bisa menelan anggaran hingga 80 miliar dolar AS atau sekitar Rp1.298 triliun.

Pembangunan tanggul laut raksasa dilakukan untuk menanggulangi masalah bencana banjir kerap terjadi di kawasan Pantai Utara Jawa, terutama di beberapa wilayah yang kondisinya makin memprihatinkan, seperti pesisir utara Jakarta, Semarang dan Demak.

Dengan keterbatasan fiskal, Pemerintah RI berharap, ada minat investasi dari investor asing dalam proyek tanggul laut raksasa tersebut.

No kidding, the government calculates that the project could cost up to 80 billion US dollars or around Rp. 1,298 trillion.

The construction of giant sea embankments is carried out to overcome the problem of floods that often occur in the North Coast of Java, especially in several areas whose conditions are increasingly concerning, such as the north coast of Jakarta, Semarang and Demak.

With fiscal limitations, the Indonesian government hopes that there will be investment interest from foreign investors in the giant sea embankment project.
