Minister Of Industry Says Global Halal Industry Potential Is Estimated To Reach 3.36 Trillion US Dollars In 2028

TANGERANG - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the economic potential of the halal industry in the global market is quite large.

Agus explained that the consumption of the world's Muslims in six sharia sectors reached 2.43 trillion US dollars in 2023 and is estimated to increase to 3.36 trillion US dollars in 2028.

"You can imagine how much potential the market (halal industry) is and this figure is expected to increase to 3.36 trillion US dollars in two years," Agus said at the Indo 2025 Halal event at ICE BSD, Tangerang Regency, Banten, Thursday, September 25.

Agus explained that the increase included several sectors, including halal food which was projected to increase from 1.43 trillion US dollars in 2023 to 1.93 trillion US dollars in 2028.

"For the sector or sub-sector of fashion fashion in 2023, there are 327 billion US dollars and it is projected to increase to 433 billion US dollars by 2028," he said.

Meanwhile, the media sector and the creative economy are estimated to reach $337 billion by 2028, up from $260 billion in 2023.

For Muslim-friendly tourism, Agus said, the value is projected to increase from 217 billion US dollars in 2023 to 384 billion US dollars in 2028.

Meanwhile, halal pharmaceuticals are estimated to reach nearly 150 billion US dollars in 2027, higher than 107 billion US dollars in 2023.

Meanwhile, halal cosmetics in 2023 were recorded at 87.87 billion US dollars, which is estimated to increase to 118 billion US dollars in 2028.

He also highlighted the significant potential of the Indonesian market, as reflected in household consumption reaching IDR 3,226 trillion in the first semester of 2025.

"(This potential) is supported by the Muslim population (in Indonesia) which reaches 245 million people," he said.

Merujuk pada UU 59/2024 tentang Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Panjang Nasional (RPJPN), pengembangan industri halal menjadi salah satu fokus utama untuk mewujudkan Indonesia sebagai pusat halal dunia.

Untuk itu, Pusat Industri Halal Kemenperin menjalankan enam program utama, antara lain penyusunan kebijakan teknis, pembentukan dan penguatan infrastruktur halal, pengembangan SDM, fasilitasi industri, promosi dan kerja sama serta pengawasan.

Referring to Law 59/2024 concerning the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), the development of the halal industry is one of the main focuses for realizing Indonesia as the world's halal center.

For this reason, the Ministry of Industry's Center for Halal Industry runs six main programs, including the preparation of technical policies, the establishment and strengthening of halal infrastructure, human resource development, industrial facilitation, promotion and cooperation and supervision.
