BPS Records Deflation August 2025 Reaches 0.08 Percent

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that the Consumer Price Index (IHK) in August 2025 recorded a deflation of 0.08 percent.

As for the annual or year on year (yoy), inflation occurs at 2.31 percent.

"There was a decline in the consumer price index from 108.60 in July 2025 to 108.51 in August 2025. yoy there was an inflation of 2.31 percent and in calendar or year-to-date there was an inflation of 1.60 percent," said Deputy Statistics for Distribution and Services BPS Pudji Ismartini, Monday 1 September.

He detailed, if viewed from the expenditure group, the largest monthly deflation contributor expenditure group is the food, beverage, and tobacco group with deflation of 0.29 percent and contributed 0.08 percent to deflation.

The dominant commodities driving deflation in this group are tomatoes that contribute to deflation by 0.10 percent.

Then other commodities that also contributed to deflation in this group were cayenne pepper with a deflation contribution of 0.07 percent, air transportation rates with deflations of 0.03 percent, then gasoline with deflation of 0.02 percent.

In addition, there are also commodities that still contributed to inflation in August 2025, including shallots and rice with an inflationary contribution of 0.05 percent and 0.03 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, lunar inflation (mtm) based on components, Puji detailed, the core component experienced inflation of 0.06 percent and this component contributed 0.04 percent of inflation.

"The dominant commodities that contribute to inflation for this core component are tuition fees or academies or colleges, then gold jewelry and also basic school fees," he explained.

On the other hand, the price component is regulated by the government, which has deflation by 0.08 percent.
