BI Optimistic That Indonesia's Exports Will Continue To Grow Despite The Threat Of US Tariffs

YOGYAKARTA Bank Indonesia (BI) projects the condition of Indonesia's exports in the midst of the shadow of the additional transipulation tariff policy from US President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, the transipulation tariff policy is a step Trump has taken to prevent products from China from being transferred to other countries before entering the US market. One of the countries affected by this rule is Vietnam, which is at a rate of up to 40 percent if export products are proven not domestically made.

"Indeed, there is still a risk with an additional tariff for transhipment," said BI Director of Economic Policy and Monetary Department Budi Winantya in BI policy activities to Maintain Stability and Drive Growth, Friday, August 22.

Juli admits that the uncertainty due to the import tariff policy still exists, but this condition is temporary and currently the certainty regarding tariff policies is now increasingly visible.

According to him, one of the indicators is Indonesia's 19 percent reciprocal tariff which is very competitive compared to other countries.

"We believe that in the future the exports will still be good. Indeed, in general, because the rates are lower, the confidence is higher, of course, we hope that future exports will also increase," he said.

He also added that export growth is expected to contribute to increasing investment and household consumption.

BI noted that Indonesia's exports experienced significant growth in June and July 2025 which had a real impact on the three main sectors.

First, the manufacturing sector recorded a growth of 5.68 percent. Second, the trade sector, which grew 5.37 percent, is in line with the increase in export activity. The third is the information and communication sector, which experienced the highest growth among the three, reaching 7.9 percent.

Based on the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released on August 1, 2025, it shows that Indonesia's export value in June 2025 reached 23.44 billion US dollars, or an increase of 11.29 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
