JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works has completed the construction of the Babakan Lor Suspension Bridge which is on the border between West Java and Central Java Provinces.
The construction of the Babakan Losari Lor suspension bridge began in November 2024 and was completed at the end of June 2025 at a state budget cost of Rp. 13.8 billion.
PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said the construction of the suspension bridge was one of the people's infrastructure whose benefits were directly felt by the community. This is because the bridge opens access to villages that are on the side of Brebes Regency to Kuningan or vice versa.
At least three villages are located in Brebes and the average community works in Kuningan.
Before there was a bridge, said Dody, they had to turn around 13-15 kilometers when they worked.
"So, in my opinion, the existence of this suspension bridge really helps smooth the transportation of people who will work or cross to West Java," said Dody after inspecting the Babakan Losari Lor Suspension Bridge, quoted from his written statement, Thursday, August 21.
Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta-West Java National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) of the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works, Rina Kumalasari, said that according to its designation, the suspension bridge can only be crossed by residents on foot or using two-wheeled motorized vehicles and ambulances for emergency conditions.
According to Rina, the construction of the bridge provides benefits for residents, especially from Babakan Village in Central Java in carrying out agricultural activities, such as facilitating access to and from agricultural areas, thereby maximizing agricultural production and reducing production costs.
"This bridge is very important, because it is the main access for citizens who daily cross provincial borders, including school children and farmers distributing their crops," said Rina.
