JAKARTA - The government will build Solar Power Plants (PLTS) in all Red and White Village Cooperatives (Kopdes) with a total capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW). For information, so far there are 80,081 Red and White Kopdes spread throughout Indonesia.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said the construction of PLTS at the Red and White Kopdes was directed by President Prabowo Subianto to encourage village independence.
"In the future, we will build approximately 100 GW ... and this will encourage how electricity is available for the Red and White Cooperative," he said, quoted Wednesday, August 6.
Bahlil added, with the existence of PLTS in each Kopdes, the government hopes to support electricity in the region. Thus, the electricity produced is much cleaner and suppresses the use of fossil fuels in the power plant.
"We are still building a big design. One of the things we will build is the PLTS for all villages. All of our villages are PLTS," said Bahlil.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said the Government was drafting regulations for the development of solar power plants (PLTS) in villages in Indonesia as part of efforts to accelerate energy self-sufficiency.

"Later we will build electricity based on solar panels. The investment has been calculated to be around 100 billion US dollars," Zulhas said, adding that currently Indonesia spends around 25 billion US dollars per year on energy subsidies.
Zulhas said that later each village would allocate 1--1.5 hectares of land for solar panel installations. With a target of 80,000 villages, the total land to be used reaches around 120 thousand hectares.
He added that this electricity system is designed to be integrated locally, starting at the village level, then sub-districts, to districts, with energy storage using battery technology.
