Garuda Wants To Add A Plane, Minister Of Transportation Dudy: Good, We Still Need A Lot

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi opened his voice regarding PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk's plan to add to its aircraft fleet.

According to Dudy, the plan is very good.

"If Garuda wants to add a plane, that's good," he told reporters at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, written Wednesday, July 9.

Dudy said the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) was in a position to support the plan.

Moreover, he continued, Indonesia still needs many planes to serve the community.

"Yes, we still need a lot to serve our airspace," said Dudy.

Regarding the type of fleet chosen by Boeing, Dudy considered this to be the domain of Garuda Indonesia to determine it.

"We leave it to Garuda," he said.

For your information, Boeing himself has been in the spotlight because of various problems in recent years. One of the problems experienced by Boeing is the tragedy of negligence in safety and quality control which has caused a fatal accident.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the purchase of a new aircraft from Boeing is reportedly included in a series of efforts to negotiate a reciprocal rate with the US. Reportedly, Garuda will buy 75 aircraft.

Previously, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir confirmed that state-owned companies were involved as supporters of the Indonesian negotiating team to reach an agreement regarding the reciprocal import rate of the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump.

The representatives of state-owned companies who participated in the Indonesian to US negotiating team led by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, namely the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri and the President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, Deputy Military Commander Tsani Panjaitan.

"Yes, please (go there). Because he supports the system to maintain transactions," said Erick at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 8.

Erick explained that Garuda Indonesia was involved in continuing the aircraft procurement agreement with Boeing.

Erick said, Garuda already has a new contract with the US aircraft manufacturer.

"Including the procurement of airplanes, which we are still lacking," he explained.
