KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya Sinks: 31 Survivors And 4 Dies

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation reported 31 people survived the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya ship accident in the waters of the Bali Strait and four people died.

Director General of Sea Transportation Muhammad Masyhud said KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya was known to have sailed from Ketapang Port to Gilimanuk Harbor and reportedly experienced a distress condition on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at around 23.20 WIB. Based on reports from officers in the field, the ship sank at 23.35 WIB.

Masyhud said that based on temporary manifest data, the ship carried 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles from various groups.

Furthermore, Masyhud said the search and rescue operation (SAR) had been carried out since early morning by the Joint Team from elements of Basarnas, TNI/Polri, Syahbandar, KPLP, ASDP, as well as other related elements under the coordination of the Search and Rescue Office.

Until 10:00 local time, temporary data was reported that four people had died and 31 passengers had been successfully evacuated safely and are currently under further treatment in Gilimanuk. The victim's name and information is still in the process of collecting data," he said in an official statement, Thursday, July 3.

Currently, he said, SAR operations are still ongoing with the support of the sea fleet and rescue teams from various relevant agencies. Search efforts for other passengers are still ongoing.

"The evacuation process faces challenges in the form of sea waves that are high 2 to 2.5 meters, strong winds, and strong currents around the scene," he explained.

In addition, the Directorate General of Hubla also expressed deep concern over this incident and ensured that every step of handling was carried out quickly, coordinated, and prioritizing mental safety.

"We continue to coordinate with all stakeholders to support the smooth running of search and rescue operations," he said.

Masyhud said that this effort had been opened by the Integrated Command Post for the Evacuation of KMP. Tunu Pratama Jaya at the ASDP Gilimanuk Branch Office.

"We will convey further developments along with official information from the SAR team in the field," he said.
