JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) targets the volume of subscribers of the Public Service Obligation (PSO) train or subsidized train service by 2025 to reach 18,772,516 users.

"The target consists of 11,525,805 customers for long-distance train services or KAJJ and 7,246,711 customers for local trains or close range," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba quoting Antara.

He conveyed that the program is part of the government's policy through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation in ensuring the availability of public transportation that is equitable, safe, and affordable throughout Indonesia.

He said that in the period January to April 2025, the volume of PSO train customers had reached 5,788,555 customers, or 97.25 percent of the January-April target set at 5,952,111 customers.

This shows that PSO services get a very positive response from the community. The high level of achievement in the first four months of this year shows that this subsidy policy is right on target and needed," said Anne.

He detailed the volume of PSO customers from January to April 2025 on long-distance trains to 3,756,486 customers, exceeding the target set in that period of 3,611,417 customers (104 percent).

The volume level that exceeds 100 percent can occur in train services that have a flexible travel pattern. One seat can be used by more than one passenger as passengers ride and descend at various stations along the route.

Meanwhile, the realization of PSO in the Local/National Train is 2,032,069 customers from the target of 2,340,694 customers, or around 86.8 percent of the achievement.

"With nearly 6 million PSO customers in the first four months, KAI is optimistic that it can achieve the annual target of 18.7 million customers provided by the government," said Anne.

He added that KAI will continue to strive to maintain the quality of PSO services so that they remain reliable, timely, and affordable. KAI also continues to support the government in realizing inclusive and sustainable public transportation.
