BPJS Employment Gives Compensation Of IDR 85 Million To PMI Heirs Died In South Korea

JAKARTA - BPJS Ketenagakerjaan handed over death insurance (JKM) compensation of Rp. 85 million to the heirs of PMI who died while working on a ship in South Korea, Musthakfirin.

Musthakfirin is the PMI Government to Government (G to G) scheme that is placed in the fisheries sector in South Korea with an E-9 work visa.

The deceased reportedly fell from the ship where he worked and was declared dead on April 15, 2025 at 23:52 local time due to drowning in Hongdo waters, Sinan-gun, Jeolalanam-do.

This incident is a deep sorrow, not only for the family, but also for the government and all Indonesian people.

As a form of state presence, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan ensures that the rights of the deceased as an active participant are still given in full.

P2MI Minister Abdul Kadir Karding expressed his deep condolences and the government will fulfill all the rights of every citizen.

"We, the ministry representing Pak Prabowo, express our deep sorrow to the whole family and we pray that the deceased will be accepted by God Almighty," he said.

Karding said that the heirs of Musthakfirin will receive compensation for the Death Security program from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to continue the family's life after the death of the late Musthakfirin.

He emphasized that all PMIs should be protected by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"I got Rp85 million in compensation from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. This is what I need to convey, why do we go to work, I always warn, always announce, urge, to go abroad procedurally, because with this procedure we are equipped with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, certification, and work contracts so that when there is a work accident that causes death like this there has been social security that protects it," he said.

In line with that, BPJS Employment Service Director Roswita Niliakurnia on a separate occasion emphasized that all BPJS Employment participants who are active, both at home and abroad, have the same right to benefit from employment social security.

This compensation is the right of the deceased as a participant in the BPJS Employment program. We are here to ensure that the bereaved family does not bear the burden itself. This is the function of employment social security as a protection umbrella in the midst of life risks," said Roswita.
