JAKARTA The Indonesian government continues the trade negotiations process with the United States (US), particularly regarding the reciprocal tariff policy imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia offers fair and equal trade cooperation with the United States, which fully refers to national interests.

"The Indonesian offer to the US to realize fair, fair, and square trade cooperation fully refers to national interests and is designed to maintain a balance of at least five benefits," he said in a virtual press conference, Friday, April 25.

Airlangga explained the first benefit, namely that this collaboration aims to meet the needs and maintain national and second energy security, fighting for access to the Indonesian market to the United States, especially through a more competitive tariff policy for Indonesian export products.

Furthermore, the third benefit is to support deregulation efforts to increase ease of doing business, trade, and investment that have an impact on job creation.

"Fourth, obtaining added value with the cooperation of supply chain or supply chain strategic and critical mineral industries. Fifth, access to science and technology in various fields, including health, agriculture, renewable energy," he explained.

Airlangga explained that in this negotiation process, the Indonesian government is also actively communicating and receiving input from various parties, including entrepreneurs and business associations such as the Semiconductor Industry Association, US-ASEAN Business Council, USIBC, and USINDO, as well as large companies such as Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft, and Google.

"Especially in the context of strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and the United States and all stakeholders, it supports Indonesia's efforts to get justice," he added.

Airlangga emphasized that the entire negotiation and negotiation process was carried out by prioritizing national interests, while still encouraging strengthening bilateral relations with the United States.

"Efforts to approach Indonesia have been very well accepted and highly appreciated by USTR, Commerce, and Treasury and all open up dialogue spaces and provide opportunities for technical discussion in detail in the next two weeks, and there is also good momentum to encourage structural reforms that are currently being carried out to encourage trade and investment," he said.
