Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the Free Nutrition Food Program (MBG) does not only contribute to improving the nutrition of children and pregnant women, but also has the potential to reduce poverty by 2.6 percent.
Luhut conveyed that with the target of 82.9 million beneficiaries and budget allocations of Rp. 171 trillion, this program is one of the strategic initiatives that must be supported together to ensure its success.
"The impact of MBG on economic growth, I observe, is very real in the field. From the data I got, the increase in demand for rice, eggs and chickens from this program alone was able to absorb domestic production and strengthen the agricultural sector," said Luhut in his statement, Tuesday, March 11.
In addition to creating jobs, Luhut said that MBG is also projected to be able to reduce inequality by 3.6 percent and encourage more equitable economic growth in various regions.
According to him, the success of this program really depends on implementation that is in accordance with the plans and targets that have been set.
"In order to ensure the sustainability of this Free Nutrition Food program, I also ask BGN to conduct a gradual audit so that the governance of this program remains strong and accountable," added Luhut.
Meanwhile, MBG has run in 38 provinces with 2 million beneficiaries, supported by 722 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) which play a role in maintaining food quality and ensuring smooth distribution.
