Coordinating Minister AHY: The Giant Sea Embankment Project Is An Effort By The Government To Protect Coastal Areas

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) revealed that the giant sea embankment project or Giant Seawall must be realized as an effort to protect coastal areas.

"In the future, the giant sea embankment or Giant Seawall project must be realized as part of efforts to protect coastal areas," AHY said in a written statement, quoted by Antara, Saturday, March 8.

He also highlighted the impact of the climate crisis and the increasingly frequent extreme weather, including in the northern coastal area. He stressed that this climate change factor should be a serious concern in spatial planning and more adaptive infrastructure development.

The government is committed to overseeing the recovery process and ensuring long-term mitigation measures can be realized immediately to protect the public from the impact of flooding in the future.

With strong coordination and real action in the field, it is hoped that flood management can be more effective and sustainable.

Based on the Attachment of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025 concerning the Narrative of the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2025-2029, the Giant Seawall Project of North Java is included in the National Strategic Project Indication List 2025-2029.

As for the list, the location is planned to include DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Banten and Central Java.

The National Strategic Project can be initiated/proposed and implemented by both the central government, local governments, state-owned enterprises and private business entities.

Projects proposed and implemented other than by the central government are a form of contribution from local governments, BUMN and private business entities to achieving the targets of the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) which requires support from the government.

PSN planning and implementation and control are part of the integral of the national development planning process.

PSN is set annually in accordance with the framework for implementing development priorities and project readiness, including the availability of funding and based on the President's approval. The determination of PSN is carried out through a government work plan mechanism.
