JAKARTA - The high intensity of rain in the Puncak area, Bogor, on Sunday, March 2, caused the water discharge upstream of the Ciliwung River to continue to increase.
The river was unable to accommodate water and inundated residential areas and damaged several bridges.
Deputy Minister of Public Works (PU) Diana Kusumastuti expressed her concern over the flood disaster in Cisarua, Bogor, West Java.
Diana had visited the evacuation sites of people affected by the flood disaster in Tugu Village, Cisarua, Bogor Regency, Monday, March 3.
He appealed to residents not to live on the banks of the river because it would narrow down the river body.
"I see that the river was once wide, now it is narrow because there are so many houses along the river," Diana said as quoted from her written statement, Tuesday, March 4.
"The water is of course looking for its own path, so I hope it will not be inhabited," he continued
According to Diana, the post-flood handling steps of the Ciliwung River in the Cisarua area must be carried out immediately by coordinating cross-sectorally with the West Java Provincial Government and the Bogor Regency Government.
Post-flood handling also includes efforts to relocate residents living in river bodies.
On that occasion, Diana also briefly visited the Hankam Bridge which was broken due to flooding in Cisarua. This bridge is located on the district road which is the main access connecting the villages of Lewimalang and Jogjogan.
A total of six bridges were broken. Diana also appealed in building a bridge that crosses the flow of water/river, must first receive technical recommendations from the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works.
"I see these rivers being blocked by bridge construction," he said.
Then, Diana also reviewed the dry dam (dry dam) of Ciawi which was downstream in the flood location.
This dam is designed to have a capacity volume of 6.05 million square meters and an inundation area of 39.40 hectares is able to reduce the flood discharge by about 111.75 cubic meters per second entering Jakarta by holding back water flow from Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango before reaching the Katulampa Dam which then flows into the Ciliwung River.
