The Budget Of The Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Is Cut, How Is The Electric Motor Conversion Program?

JAKARTA - The government has not been able to confirm the continuation of this year's electric motor conversion program.

The main reason is because there is no allocation for the program due to efficiency.

This was conveyed by the Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eniya Listiani Dewi when giving a speech at the Carbon Neutrality (CN) Mobility Event by Toyota: Beyond Zero Festival at Gambir Expo, Jakarta, Friday, February 14.

"If the Minister (ESDM) says it exists. But we will discuss the budget again, because there is efficiency. So, what should we do?" he said.

As for 2024, the realization of electric motor conversions has reached around 1,500 units, including 263 units of free conversion program assistance.

This figure has increased 10 times compared to 2023, which is only 145 units. The value of this conversion subsidy is worth Rp. 10 million.

"Yesterday I asked my company friends to move, there was an incentive of Rp. 10 million, then CSR funds of Rp. 5 million. So, (there is) additional batteries, a total of Rp. 15 million incentives. It has been distributed to convert electric motorcycles last year, there is electric motorcycle racing," he said.

Therefore, Eniya has not been able to confirm whether the incentives for the conversion of electric motors this year will continue or not.

"The conversion is waiting for the funding direction, yes. Of course it will be continued, but there is incentive funding or not that we do not know, because the efficiency of the budget. (So) it is not (certain)," he concluded.

Previously in August 2024, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources launched a 1,000-unit free motorcycle conversion program for the people of Jabodetabek.

The provision of free conversions is a collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources by cooperating with business entities through the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

The budget disbursed by the government for the conversion program of 1,000 motorbikes is Rp. 14.8 billion with a subsidy of Rp. 10 million per motorbike.
