The Ministry Of Transportation's Budget Has Been Cut, The DPR Asks For PSO And Transportation Subsidies To Remain Guaranteed

JAKARTA - Commission V DPR RI requested that the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) ensure the implementation of public service obligation (PSO) and also transportation subsidies to remain even though the ministry's budget is cut off in the context of efficiency.

Chairman of Commission V DPR RI Lasarus emphasized that PSO and this transportation subsidy must be ensured to be guaranteed because it involves the interests of many people.

"In principle, if the Ministry of Transportation is a basic service, sir, PSO, transportation subsidies, we from Commission V encourage because it is directly related to the lives of many people because it is certain to remain guaranteed," he said in a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation, at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 12.

Lasarus said that if the Ministry of Transportation's budget was not enough to be allocated to PSO and transportation subsidies, it could be proposed to the government again.

"Maybe if it is still not covered, today's condition is proposed to the government so that this continues as it should so as not to cause unrest in the community. We really advise," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the government had made massive efficiency in the budget in 2025. The Ministry of Transportation's (Kemenhub) budget was also cut by 43.66 percent from the initial ceiling, so that the budget obtained was IDR 17.725 trillion.

Meanwhile, based on a letter from the Ministry of Finance on September 23, 2024, the initial ceiling of the Ministry of Transportation's budget in 2025 is IDR 31.45 trillion.

Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana said that based on Presidential Instruction number 1 of 2025 concerning the efficiency of spending on the implementation of the APBN and APBD, the Ministry of Transportation's budget ceiling experienced efficiency.

As of February 11, continued Suntana, the Ministry of Transportation had an effective ceiling of Rp. 17.725 trillion or 56.34 percent of the initial ceiling of Rp. 31.45 trillion.

"Alhamdulillah wa thank God, based on the coordination meeting on February 11, 2025 a few days ago, as letter from the Ministry of State Secretary regarding the invitation to discuss the follow-up meeting of presidential instruction number 1 of 2025 through a joint meeting with the Ministry of Finance, we can report the latest effective ceiling of the Ministry of Transportation which was originally Rp13.58 trillion to Rp17,725 trillion or 56.34 percent of the initial ceiling," he said.
