Bank Indonesia Withdraws Special Rupiah Series For The Children Of The World In 1999 Emissions

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) officially revoked and withdrew the Special Rupiah Series for The Children of The World Year 1999 denominations of IDR 150,000 and IDR 10,000 from circulation starting January 31, 2025.

Executive Director of the BI Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said that the revocation of the distribution permit was contained in Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) No. 2 of 2025 concerning Revocation and Withdrawal of Special Rupiah for Series For The Children of The World for the 1999 Emission Year from Circulation.

"Thus, the date referred to by the Special Rupiah Money is no longer valid as a legal tender in the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," he said in his statement, Tuesday, February 4.

Denny conveyed that for people who have this special rupiah currency and want to exchange, they can exchange it at the Commercial Bank from January 31, 2025 to January 31, 2035, or 10 years from the date of revocation.

Denny explained that the replacement would be given in the same nominal value as the one stated in the Rupiah Money.

"If the Rupiah money that will be exchanged is in shabby, flawed, or damaged condition, the replacement will be made by referring to Bank Indonesia Regulation No. 21/10/PBI/2019 regarding the Management of Rupiah Money," he said.

Denny detailed that in terms of physical, the Rupiah metal is greater than 1/2 (one at a second) in its original size and the characteristics of Rupiah money can be recognized for its authenticity, given a replacement of the nominal value of the Rupiah money exchanged,

Meanwhile, in terms of physical, the metallic Rupiah currency is the same as or less than 1/2 (one-third) its original size, no replacement is given.
