JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza said that local factories are actually capable of producing and assembling smartphones. In fact, local manufacturing can also cooperate with a number of global brands.
Faisol proved it during a working visit to PT Sat Nusapersada in Batam, Riau. There, he considered that Indonesia was actually capable of producing cellphones and hardware (hardware) for electronic equipment.
Therefore, Faisol invites the global mobile phone industry such as Apple to disburse large-scale investments in Indonesia.
"We convey to Apple to invest in building a cellphone factory in Indonesia," said Faisol in a written statement, Friday, January 17.
So far, Sat Nusapersada has collaborated with a number of global brands to produce cellphones that will be officially sold to Indonesia. The factory conducts production processes ranging from assembly to packaging.
The newest brands of mobile phones assembled by PT Sat Nusapersada are Honor and Motorola which will later be officially sold in the country.
Faisol is confident that Indonesian companies can be compared to manufacturing in other countries, such as Vietnam, Malaysia, India and China.
"Please compare the companies that are now in Indonesia with companies that have been their partners in other countries. Both in Vietnam, Malaysia, India and in China," he said.
According to him, Indonesia has been able to be competitive to be able to work on all the production processes of communication tools such as cellphones.
He said the experience carried out by Sat Nusapersada over the years raised optimism that Indonesia has great potential to develop industries in the telecommunications sector.
