Improving Clean Energy Education, PGN Makes SMPN 34 Depok A Career Energy School

PT PGN Tbk as Pertamina Gas Subholding supports SMPN 34 Depok to become a Career Energy School (SEB) to increase education for students regarding the use of clean energy. In this program, PGN collaborates with Pertamina Oil and Gas Holding to realize Pertamina's TJSL program focus in the field of education.

"SEB is a company's solution step in increasing awareness of the younger generation at SMPN 34 Depok regarding the importance of protecting the environment, introducing the concept of EBT and climate change mitigation. The SEB program also supports SMPN 34 Depok to become Adiwiyata School," explained Fajriyah Usman as PGN's Corporate Secretary, Thursday, January 16.

SMPN 34 Depok is PGN's partner in the TJSL Ciliwung Gate program. SEB entitled Energizing Sustainable Community held various activities. PGN handed over assistance for a solar panel system with a capacity of 3.3 kW equipped with a battery storage of 5 kWh. This Solar Panel will be used to support canteen operations and hydroponic systems in schools.

"The use of this solar panel is estimated to save electricity costs up to 6.8 million rupiah per year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3.82 tons of CO2 per year," explained Fajriyah.

Meanwhile, as a tangible manifestation of concern for the environment, tree seedlings are planted in the school area. SMPN 34 Depok students are also given facilities to display creativity in waste recycling competition through the Upcycling Expo. This activity is expected to instill the importance of managing waste creatively.

SEB also held workshops with various types of classes, theme and learning methods. The main materials for workshops are related to the management of household waste, understanding environmental issues around and the benefits of using solar panels.

"With the SEB Program at SMPN 34 Depok, PGN shows its commitment to supporting the sustainability of education and energy. This program is expected to have a broad positive impact on the environment and the younger generation as the nation's successor. PGN will continue to collaborate to support sustainable development goals, especially on quality education points (SDG 4)," concluded Fajriyah.
